The sixth grade science students have been learning about body systems. We finished up a unit learning about certain neurological diseases. They researched a disease, created a presentation about it, and then partnered up to collaborate their ideas to teach the disease to their class.

It's been a great first couple months in fifth grade! From science labs to learning the historical data surrounding the plague and comparing it to Covid-19 impacts, we are stretching our brains! We've wrapped up several concepts in Math, including how to add and subtract decimals. We did some "real-world application" and balanced a checkbook with a transaction list. We ended October with some Minute-to-Win-It games and a visit to Silo Market for a sweet treat from Mrs. Olsen!

Plankinton School Learns a Life-Changing Skill with the All Kids Bike Program

Thanks to Klock Werks and Flying Pistons Benefit, Kindergartners will develop coordination, confidence, and a foundation for lifelong wellness through biking

What: All Kids Bike, the national 501(c)(3) nonprofit on a mission to give every child in America the opportunity to learn how to ride a bike in school, is revealing the All Kids Bike Kindergarten PE Learn-to-Ride Program at Plankinton Elementary, thanks to a generous donation from Klock Werks and Flying Pistons Benefit.

Klock Werks and Flying Pistons Benefit, provided $9,000 to gift the ready-to-teach, All Kids Bike Kindergarten PE Learn-to-Ride Program, which includes teacher training and certification, the comprehensive 8 lesson learn-to-ride curriculum, a fleet of 24 Strider balance-to-pedal bikes, pedal conversion kits, student helmets, a teacher instruction bike, and rolling storage racks. This is everything needed to teach kids how to progress from balancing to pedaling.

By teaching kids to ride bikes in school, All Kids Bike gives hundreds of thousands of children each year the chance to learn a life-changing skill that supports physical development, boosts mental health, and builds confidence. This inclusive program empowers children to achieve a key developmental milestone while building lifelong fitness, confidence, and independence—because every child deserves the joy and freedom that comes with riding on two wheels.

Wednesday was the day! The unveiling to our PK, K and 1st Grade students, their new equipment. Mrs. Victor - Principal- applied for the grant and we were honored to be selected as a recipient. All students in grades PK- 1 were able to give the Strider Bikes a try and take them for a spin around the gym. Mr. Karst, Mrs. Victor, as well as School Board Members Colleen Ryan-Johnson and Brian Reis got to lead the charge for a lap or two. Sue Faulhaber, School Board Member was there and assisted with bike helmets, raising bike seats and getting the students started on their way.

It was a great morning and we are so thankful and appreciative of the program sponsors and their donations. We know our students will love them!
