Happy Johnny Appleseed Day!🍎🍏
This morning first grade learned all about John Chapman and his contribution to our apple crops in the US 🇺🇸
We discussed what we already knew about apples and learned about their life cycle. We then made our own life cycle chart to display in the hallway. 🌱🌳🌸🍎
Afterwards, for snack, we taste tested Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, and Red Delicious apple slices to see which variety was the most liked by students. We discussed how each apple was similar and different from one another. Honeycrisp won! To close our lesson, we charted our votes with a bar graph and tally chart.🤗

Auditions for the fall play "Let Him Sleep Till it's Time for His Funeral" will be held Monday Sept 29 after school. Please reach out to Mrs Stoebner with any questions.

The Plankinton School District School Lunch Program is looking to use local beef for our lunch program. The lunch program uses approximately 2200 lbs of beef during the school year which equates 3 - 4 head of beef. Currently, the school uses beef from USDA commodities food distributors as well as through local grocery stores.
The Beef to School program is designed to introduce school aged children to local producers by offering locally raised beef at lunch.
The Plankinton School District is asking for ranchers/farmers to donate locally raised beef for this program. By participating, local producers will provide higher quality meat to our students and help to reduce district food costs.
Producers Information:
may donate beef or
may donate to defray the cost of the processing
there is no cost for their donation
tax deductible
Others:
may donate to defray the cost of processing
tax deductible
According to the SD Dept of Agriculture and the Farm to School USDA Office of Community Food Systems guidelines, the meat processing facility must be approved to process locally raised beef for the Plankinton School District Lunch Program.
Cattle producers are asked to notify the school of their donation intention.
The district will then schedule their cattle for meat processing.
